In the ancient Kingdom of Mythranor, few paths command more honor than service in the Crown's army. Nobles and commoners alike jostle for the chance to bear the royal sigil-- forsaking home, love, and coin for a few short years of service in the King's name. But beyond the high walls of Mythranor, in the wilderness beyond roam a rogue group of Rangers.
Though few use that name anymore. Most call them Jackals: scavengers, criminals, tools of convenience for a kingdom too proud to admit how much it needs them. Jackals serve on the outer edges of civilization-outposts, borderlands, and the deep wilds where monsters roam and human dominance fades. They move though every terrain, every shadow, gathering intelligence the King’s armies are too proud-or too fragile-to seek for themselves.
These rangers are only as loyal to the king as they need to be. Their leaders are chosen by vote, not blood or decree. Their code is one of survival, not ceremony. And while the King's court may sneer, the king and his close advisors know one truth: without the Jackals, Mythranor would be blind to the world that awaits beyond its walls.
For centuries, superstition has clung to the Jackals like mist. Some say death follows the Jackals-that to see one is to know your fate has already turned. Others whisper that they still serve some forgotten purpose.. not for the King. but for something older and all seeing. Whatever the truth, the Jackals remain in the dark places between duty and exile-shaping the fate of a kingdom that barely admits the exist.
